What is an automatic sensor door?
An automatic sensor door is an automatic glass door that detects an approaching person with a sensor, opens by itself and closes once they have passed through. In Turkish they are commonly called "photocell doors" after the light cells used in older systems; today radar and infrared safety sensors are mostly used together. Common types are:
- Single-leaf sliding: For narrow entrances and façades with limited side space.
- Double-leaf sliding: The layout we see most often at shop and hotel entrances.
- Telescopic sliding: The leaves slide over one another to give a wider clear opening.
- Automatic swing (hinged) doors: For corridor passages and disabled access.
When choosing the leaf layout, where the leaves will stack when open matters as much as the entrance width. If there is not enough space along the side walls, a telescopic system comes to the fore; if there is a wide shopfront, a double-leaf sliding system does. We make this decision after seeing your façade's architecture on site.
Where they are used in North Cyprus
Shops, banks, government offices and clinics in Nicosia (Lefkoşa); hotels, casinos and restaurants in Kyrenia (Girne); businesses around the universities in Famagusta (Gazimağusa) and the social facilities of new complexes in Iskele are where automatic sensor doors are most popular. For venues with heavy foot traffic in the tourist season, preventing air-conditioned air from escaping is also an important advantage. On the coast, salty air means the mechanism needs more regular maintenance.
Automatic sensor doors don't just add convenience; touch-free access is also a hygiene advantage. That is why they are increasingly chosen by clinics, pharmacies, laboratories and food retailers. How long the door stays open and how fast it closes can be set to match your customer flow.
Choosing the right automatic sensor door
- Traffic volume: A supermarket entrance and a small office have different needs; the motor and mechanism are chosen accordingly.
- Façade and frame: Whether the system will be fitted to the existing aluminium frame or a completely new system will be installed is decided during the survey.
- Operating modes: Modes such as night lock, one-way and permanently open are set according to your business hours.
- Accessibility: Slow closing and a wide detection area are planned for wheelchair and pushchair users.
- Power cuts: A battery backup unit is recommended so that the door stays open or closes in a controlled way during Kıb-Tek power cuts.
Remember that the automatic door is your business's shopfront. The frame colour, glass type and how the door fits the façade shape the first impression customers get as they walk in. During the survey we listen to both your technical requirements and your visual expectations and shape the options accordingly.
Accessories and extra features
- Electromechanical lock and card access integration
- Program selector switch and digital settings panel
- Double-glazed or tempered glass leaf options
- Use together with an air curtain
- Emergency opening (fire scenario) connection
- Battery backup module
If your business has a large lobby, you can also consider a revolving door for a more prestigious entrance. For buildings that need to separate staff and visitors, we offer integrated solutions with turnstiles and access control systems.
If the mechanism of your existing automatic door is worn, it is often possible to renew only the motor unit and control board while keeping the glass leaves and frame. This is a practical way to bring your entrance up to date with current safety and comfort features without rebuilding the façade.
Installation process
- Survey: We inspect the entrance opening, ceiling and lintel structure, and power line on site.
- Quote: We send you leaf type, motor and sensor options in writing.
- Installation: We schedule the installation with you so that it doesn't disrupt your business hours.
- Handover: We adjust the sensor sensitivity and operating modes and give your staff a short briefing on use.
You can find an overview of the process on our how it works page.
Maintenance and warranty
Because automatic sensor doors operate hundreds of times a day, they need regular maintenance: cleaning the tracks, checking wheels and belts, adjusting sensors and testing locks are all part of it. For the systems we install: 3-year warranty; if periodic maintenance is carried out without interruption, the warranty can be extended to up to 5 years. If your door suddenly stops one day, you can call our 24/7 repair service.
During maintenance we specifically test whether the safety sensors are detecting correctly, because stopping the leaves before they hit a person or a pushchair is the most important safety function of an automatic door. For busy entrances we agree the maintenance interval with your business and schedule visits for times when customer traffic is low.
