What are automatic barrier systems?
An automatic barrier regulates vehicle entry and exit by raising and lowering an arm. The arm is triggered by a remote control, card, number plate recognition camera or a security guard's button. The main solutions are:
- Standard arm barriers: The most common type for complex and business entrances.
- Folding or articulated arm barriers: Used in covered car parks with low ceilings.
- Barriers with number plate recognition (LPR) integration: A camera reads the vehicle's plate and automatically grants access to registered vehicles.
- High-security road blockers and bollards: Physically block vehicle access at corporate and military sites.
How the barrier is triggered directly affects how the system is used day to day. Remote controls are practical, but distributing and tracking them becomes difficult in large complexes; cards and plate recognition make central management easier. Several methods can also be used together.
Where are they used in North Cyprus?
There is strong demand for barrier systems at large residential complexes on the Iskele and Famagusta (Gazimağusa) coast, at holiday villages and hotels in Kyrenia (Girne), in shopping centre car parks in Nicosia (Lefkoşa), and on hospital and university campuses. For complex managements, the biggest gain is being able to separate visitor and resident vehicles and keep entry records. At sites with high security requirements, such as public institutions and the Turkish Armed Forces, access control and physical barriers are planned together.
At industrial facilities and logistics sites, barriers are used to manage heavy vehicle traffic and prevent unauthorised vehicle entry. In such areas, positioning the barrier for large vehicles such as lorries and articulated trucks, drivers' sight lines and turning radius are assessed separately during the survey.
Choosing the right barrier for your needs
- Traffic volume: A business with a few vehicles a day and a busy shopping-centre car park need motors of different speed and durability.
- Lane width: Arm length and arm type are determined by the width of the entrance.
- Identification method: Remote control, RFID card, plate recognition or a combination of these.
- Records and reporting: Software infrastructure for managements that want to log who entered and when.
- Power continuity: A battery backup barrier or a controlled stay-open mode so that the complex entrance isn't locked during Kıb-Tek power cuts.
- Climate: A protected housing and regular maintenance are important at coastal entrances exposed to salt and humidity.
It is also worth considering that the barrier system may grow in future. If new blocks will be added to your complex or your business car park will expand, setting up the software and control infrastructure so that extra lanes and cameras can be added makes future investment easier.
Plate recognition and accessories
- Plate recognition cameras that can also read at night
- Software and remote access to manage the registered plate list
- Single-use QR or PIN solutions for visitors
- Loop detector and photocell to prevent the arm lowering onto a vehicle
- Traffic light, warning lamp and LED lighting on the arm
- Integration with turnstiles and access control systems for pedestrian access
If an automatic complex gate is also wanted alongside the barrier at a residential site, you can use the same control infrastructure with our automatic garden gate solutions.
With plate recognition systems, camera angle and lighting conditions directly affect reading success. At entrances where the sun shines directly into the camera or night lighting is insufficient, additional lighting or a different camera position is planned. After installation we test at different times of day to make sure the system works reliably.
Installation process
- Survey: We inspect the entry lane, ground, cable route and camera angles on site.
- Quote: We present barrier model, identification method and software options in writing.
- Installation: Concrete base, cabling, loop detector cutting, barrier and camera installation are carried out.
- Handover: The plate list and cards are set up, and site staff are trained in its use.

Maintenance and warranty
Because barriers operate around the clock, the spring balance, arm connection, motor and camera lens cleanliness should be checked regularly. For the barrier systems we install: 3-year warranty; if periodic maintenance is carried out without interruption, the warranty can be extended to up to 5 years. Since a closed entrance is a serious problem, we respond quickly with our 24/7 repair service.
For complex managements, tying barrier maintenance to an annual plan makes budgeting easier and prevents unexpected breakdowns. We also help with supplying spare arms and fast replacement after accidental damage such as a broken arm.
